Study Background
& Scope


The Government has launched a Pier Improvement Programme (PIP), aiming to upgrade the structural safety and facilities of a number of existing public piers at remote areas in the New Territories and outlying islands, with a view to facilitating public’s access to countryside scenic spots and natural heritage as well as meeting the basic needs of some local villagers relying on boats as their main transportation mode or fishermen’s operation.

Mott MacDonald Hong Kong Limited (MMHK) was commissioned on 10 February 2022 by the Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD) under Agreement No. CE 52/2021 (CE) to provide consultancy services in respect of the “Improvement Works at Ma Liu Shui Ferry Pier, Ma Nam Wat Pier, Yim Tin Tsai Pier and Yung Shue O Jetties – Feasibility Study”.

Study Scope

The Study covers Ma Liu Shui Ferry Pier in Sha Tin District, Ma Nam Wat Pier and Yim Tin Tsai Pier in Sai Kung District, and Yung Shue O Jetties in Tai Po District. The scope of the Study comprises:

Assessment

Assessment of the potential environmental impact including ecological and fisheries impact, and carrying out preliminary environmental study

Engineering Study

Preliminary engineering studies including hydraulic study and geotechnical appraisal, and preparation of preliminary engineering layouts

Site Investigation

Site investigation / field works and associated supervision

Consultation

Stakeholder consultation
